(continued) <br />► LGC recommends the excavation, logging and sampling of <br />approximately 4 exploratory small -diameter borings. Borings will <br />be advanced to depths of approximately 10 to 30 feet below existing <br />grades, or to refusal, whichever is shallower, with a truck -mounted, <br />flight -auger drill rig. Relatively undisturbed ring, SPT, and bulk soil <br />samples will be obtained for geotechnical testing. Driving blow counts <br />and the subsurface conditions encountered in the explorations will be <br />recorded by our field personnel. After drilling, logging, and sampling, <br />borings will. be backfilled with drilling cuttings. <br />Characterize the existing geologic/geotechnical conditions of the <br />existing fills/alluvium/landslide materials underlying the proposed <br />improvements to the district yard, based on our excavations. The <br />groundwater level will also be documented, if encountered. <br />! Perform 1'aboratory testing (expansion index, corrosion testing, direct <br />shear, consolidation, maximum density, moistureldensity, grain size <br />distribution analysis, and R -Value testing). <br />► Perform engineering analysis to develop preliminary geotechnical <br />design recommendations for the proposed improvements, and; <br />► Prepare a geotechnical report indicating our findings, opinions, <br />conclusions and recommendations for the proposed improvements; <br />Proposed Schedule <br />Site reconnaissance mapping will require two to three days of fieldwork, <br />spread over a period of time from the initial review to after the field <br />explorations are complete. Reconnaissance mapping does not require <br />much time and does not'rely on the use of outside contractors. <br />After exploration locations have been marked, Underground Service Alert <br />(USA) requires 48-hour advance notice for utility clearance. Therefore, we <br />can begin subsurface exploration on the order of three to four working days <br />after receipt of your authorization to proceed, weather and site conditions <br />permitting, and depending on the availability of a drill rig. <br />At this time it is anticipated that the geotechnical investigation work will <br />proceed first, followed by the installation of slope inclinometers. Some of <br />the work will occur jointly such as the geotechnical investigation of small <br />diameter borings with the installation of monitoring wells. if possible, <br />other geotechnical work will also be performed jointly in -.order to reduce <br />the time schedule.
