The groundwater level will also be documented, if <br />encountered. <br />PSOMAS <br />LGC recommends the excavation, logging and sampling of <br />approximately 16 exploratory test pits. Test -pits will be advanced to <br />depths of approximately 3 to 5 feet below existing grades, or to refusal, <br />whichever is shallower, with a backhoe. Relatively undisturbed ring <br />and bulk soil samples will be obtained. for geotechnical testing. We <br />do nq anticipate the 2nd Party. Consultant spending time in the field <br />for this portion of work. After excavation, logging, and sampling, test <br />pits will be backfilled with the excavated soils. Excess cuttings will <br />be dispersed in the vicinity of the test pit locations. The test -pits will <br />be used to ascertain the geotechnical conditions of the upper portions <br />of the existing fills, and native materials underlying the proposed park <br />site fields, driveways and parking lots, and structures to help determine <br />remedial removal depths. <br />Laboratory Testing <br />Samples obtained from the explorations will be transported to our <br />geotechnical laboratory. Geotechnical testing will be performed in general <br />accordance with applicable ASTM Standards and is anticipated to include <br />the following tests: <br />1 In-situ moisture and density (to detemune the relative density of the <br />in-place soils); <br />� Sieve analyses and hydrometers (to determine the grain size <br />distribution of the soils, the results, to -be used in -the liquefaction <br />analysis); <br />l Maximum dry density/optimum moisture content; (to be used with <br />in-situ moisture/density test results to determine the shrinkage and <br />bulking values for site earthwork calculations); <br />1. Expansion Index (to determine the expansive characteristics of <br />the anticipated soils underlying proposed structures; to be used to <br />determine slab on grade/foundation parameters); <br />Direct shear (to determine the shear strengths of the different soil types <br />located on site to be used in the slope stability analysis); <br />Y Consolidation and collapse (to determine the compressibility and <br />collapsibility of the soils underlying proposed structures and to <br />determine depth of remedial removals and to calculate settlements); <br />Scope of Services I LGC Geotechnical — 32 <br />
