August 3, 2006 <br />Page 2 <br />the referenced upcoming meeting is the Santa Monica Mountains <br />Conservancy (SMMC) and Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority <br />(MRCA). <br />7. DEFERRED MATTERS <br />None <br />8. NEW ITEMS <br />A. Appointment Of General Manager <br />City of Thousand Oaks (CTO) Mayor Dennis Gillette, former Director of Conejo <br />Recreation & Park District, presented Ward with a plaque. He commended and <br />thanked Ward for his many years of service to the community and Conejo <br />Recreation & Park District. He spoke of many productive years working with Ward <br />and the District and identified some of Ward's achievements, including the <br />acquisition and development of the Conejo Creek Park Complex (The Dream <br />Park) and acquisition of McCrea Ranch. <br />Conejo Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) Board Member Dorothy <br />Beaublen presented Ward with a proclamation, thanked him for his many years of <br />service, and noted the long, productive relationship between the District and <br />CVUSD. <br />City of Thousand Oaks City Manager Scott Mitnick spoke of Ward's impact on <br />the community and the outstanding relationships involving the CTO, District and <br />CVUSD. <br />Chuck Huffer, representing American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), <br />Region 9, spoke of the thousands of children involved in sports who have <br />benefited from Ward's efforts and leadership to provide facilities and programs. <br />He congratulated Friedl, and said he is an excellent choice for General Manager. <br />Ward acknowledged the presence of, and paid tribute to, retired Director of <br />Public Works Don Nelson, former City Manager MaryJane Lau, Deputy <br />Director of Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) Rori Skei, and <br />Mike and Tony Hagopian. <br />Ward thanked each for his/her presence and the honor paid him, and noted the <br />strong, dynamic bonds that exist among the District, CVUSD, CTO and AYSO. <br />
