Lange spoke of Ward's mentorship and statewide reputation, and said it is an honor to be associated with Ward and CRPD. Berger spoke of Ward's legacy to the community and praised his ability to work with everyone. Holt called Ward "Mr. CRPD" and said he is a true patriarch. Gibson said that Ward's fingerprints are all over community. Ward stated that the remaining action for consideration by the Board of Directors in the implementation plan to fill the position of General Manager is to formally appoint the successor General Manager. He said that Friedl has been with the District for approximately two and half years and has successfully demonstrated his professional competence, leadership abilities and commitment to the District; and it is his strong and sincere recommendation that Mr. Friedl be appointed. In response to Gibson's inquiry if he would accept the position, Friedl answered yes. Friedl noted that past and present first-rate Boards of Directors were partners with Ward in all that has been accomplished. He thanked Ward for the opportunity to learn and work with him, and he acknowledged and thanked his family, friends and coworkers for their support. It was moved by Holt, seconded by Berger, and carried 5-0 to appoint Mr. James T. Friedl to the position of General Manager, effective August 21, 2006; and to authorize Chair Gibson to execute the employment agreement as approved on July 20, 2006 on behalf of the Board of Directors. Ward congratulated Friedl. Gibson recessed the meeting at 8:30 pm. The meeting was reconvened at 8:46 pm.
