August 4, 2005 <br />Page 3 <br />facilities is necessary; initial community response to the aquatics facility has <br />been very positive; if authorization is given to continue discussions, staff will <br />return to the Board in the fall with a recommendation and proposed joint use <br />agreement. <br />Wiley stated that staff projections indicate that revenues from programming of <br />the small pool will offset the operation and maintenance costs of the small <br />pool. <br />Dodd from CLU displayed a diagram of the aquatics facility and discussed its <br />characteristics. He said the facility will serve the community. <br />Lange expressed support for the proposal. <br />Ward stated his support of the proposal, noted the synergy of the <br />organizations involved, and said this can be a milestone event for the <br />community. Gibson said a complete understanding of costs, extent of <br />community access, and ancillary issues such as parking must be determined <br />and clarified, and a multi-year pro forma would be desirable. Jacobsen <br />suggested that expenditures from the District's use of the two current aquatic <br />facilities be determined and utilized. <br />It was moved by Lange, seconded by Holt, and carried 4-0 to authorize <br />District staff to work with City of Thousand Oaks and California Lutheran <br />University (CLU) staff to negotiate an agreement to provide for public <br />use of new aquatics facility at CLU. <br />Friedl said that a report would be presented to the Board no later than <br />October. <br />C. Request For Meeting Of Park Naming Committee To Discuss <br />Recommendations For Dos Vientos Neighborhood Park Site D <br />Friedl said that staff requests that the Park Naming Committee meet to discuss <br />recommendations for naming Dos Vientos Neighborhood Parksite "D," which <br />is currently under construction.
