January 8, 2004 <br />Page 5 <br />process of becoming more involved in the RFP (Request for Proposal) and <br />RFQ (Request for Qualifications) processes and issues relevant to the <br />operation of the Chumash Interpretive Center, and has met with <br />representatives of the Wishtoyo and Chumash Corporations, and he noted <br />the presence of Dr. Robert Vann. <br />Jacobsen requested that the total site plan for Oakbrook Regional Park and <br />the Chumash Interpretive Center be brought to the Board for review and <br />evaluation. Friedl said that could be done, and suggested that input from <br />the selected operator would be helpful in such an evaluation. <br />B. Recreation Division Report <br />Benton said that Cindy Powers has been appointed to the position of RSVP <br />Director, and she highlighted Powers' academic and professional <br />accomplishments. Continuing, she said that more than eighty percent of <br />current patron registration was conducted through the Internet; at Borchard <br />Community Center, the skateboard contest on December 20 was a success <br />with 60 participants; at Goebel Senior Adult Center, the New Years Eve <br />celebration was very successful with more than 130 attendees; at the Teen <br />Center, about 500 teens attended the New Year's Eve Dance; at the <br />Cultural Unit, the next art exhibit will be the Art of the Chinese Brush <br />beginning January 9; and at Dos Vientos Community Center, CRPD is <br />hosting District Vlll Awards & Installation Banquet on January 23, and the <br />Goebel Senior Center Commission will be honored for community service. <br />C. Management Services Division Report <br />No report. <br />D. General Manager's Report <br />Ward reported that the beginning employment date for Sheryl Lewanda, the <br />new Administrator, Management Services, is January 29; the governor's <br />budget will be presented on January 9; the Board retreat is scheduled for <br />April 29 and 30, and individual sessions and a dinner meeting will be <br />scheduled on April 29, and an all day session on April 30. He noted the <br />upcoming VIP Media Day event on January 21 at the Janss House and Las <br />Robles Greens Community Center. <br />
