July 10, 1997 <br />Page 3 <br />In response to Holt's inquiry, Sorensen said that the Las Flores route would <br />require relocation of the Little League field. <br />Barbara Kloster, of Thousand Oaks, described the negative impact of the <br />school on the area, and stated her opposition to the construction of the <br />proposed road, citing safety and traffic concerns. <br />Jo Terrusa, of Thousand Oaks, spoke in opposition to the proposed road, <br />citing safety, traffic, and environmental problems. She noted the area is <br />residential and zoned equestrian, and said that the school should be moved. <br />She urged that the District not become involved with the project and said that <br />staff recommendation number two was preferred. She expressed <br />appreciation for Board courtesy and interest. <br />Sal Terrusa, of Thousand Oaks, spoke in opposition to the proposed road, <br />citing traffic, speed, safety, litter, noise, pollution, and social problems. He <br />said that the adult school location is incompatible with the residential <br />community. He referenced a packet of information provided to the Board and <br />staff. <br />Michelle Enge, of Thousand Oaks, spoke in opposition to the proposed <br />road, citing traffic and safety concerns, and said that the park site should not <br />be used for a road. <br />Jon Lindberg, of Thousand Oaks, said that he supported the position of <br />previous speakers. He spoke in opposition to the proposed Waverly Road <br />and cautioned against compromising the park site. <br />Bob Olsen, of Thousand Oaks, urged a conciliatory approach to the issue. <br />Jacobsen said that written statement cards were received from Roger Babich, <br />Judy Hare, Marilyn Murdoch, and Lawrence Schalk, and all were in <br />opposition to the proposed road. <br />Tom Goins, of Thousand Oaks, commended Sorensen's report and staff <br />recommendation number two. He cited the historic equestrian nature of the <br />area, and said that the Las Flores route was not necessary and urged that <br />the District not get involved with the proposal. <br />Ward presented an overview of the property's history and acquisition by the <br />District, and said that the appropriate use of the site is a responsibility taken <br />seriously by the District. <br />
