Minutes 12-19-96
Page 5
Edward Cohen, of Newbury Park, said he is a dog trainer,
barking and escape attempts are not problems of a "dog
park", dogs must be socialized, and he expressed
confidence a solution can be found.
George Walker, Westlake Village, said he supports the
concept of a "dog park" in another area and urged support
of that goal.
Nick Doerr, of Westlake Village and a Thousand Oaks Youth
Commissioner, praised area parks, noted current abuses
of unleashed dogs in the park, and urged that a "dog
park" site not be located near a residential area.
John McLaughlin, of Westlake Village, noted problems in
the park from unleashed dogs, and urged that a "dog park"
be located in a non-residential area.
Howard Narvy, of Thousand Oaks, said he was concerned
that a "dog park" would threaten the use and enjoyment
of the park, and urged a different, more appropriate site
for the "dog park".
Pearl Rogers, of Westlake Village, said that Triunfo Park
is an inappropriate location for a "dog park", and urged
a different site.
Lange said that there is a need for a "dog park" in the
community and, based on information received at this
time, the Triunfo Park site should not be considered for
such a facility.
Holt said that, hopefully, another site will be chosen
and fears can be allayed, perhaps at a later date Triunfo
Park will be reconsidered, and she believes that voting
for the recommendation does not indicate Triunfo Park
will never again be considered as a site.
It was moved by Holt and seconded by Lange to remove
Triunfo Park from consideration as a site for a leash
free area.
