Ward said
that, at the November meeting, consideration was given
to the extended hours of the festival, the festival's
estimated closing time is beyond the park's normal
closing time, and typically alcohol sales cease one hour
before the close of an event.
Holt said that ceasing Sunday's alcohol sales three hours
before the event's close is unreasonable and unnecessary.
It was moved by Holt, and seconded by Jacobsen, to
reconsider Board action relative to time limitations for
liquor sales at the 17th Annual Ventura County Greek
Festival; i.e, to modify the decision such that liquor
sales continue until one hour before festival closing.
Gillette expressed concern about the potential negative
consequences of fatigued volunteers interacting with and
managing consumers of alcohol.
It was carried unanimously to reconsider the motion.
It was moved by Holt, seconded by Jacobsen, and carried
4 to 1, with Gillette in opposition, to extend the hours
of alcohol sales until one hour before closing; i.e.,
Saturday, June 8 sales to continue until 8 p.m., and
Sunday, June 9, sales to continue until 7 p.m., at the
17th Annual Ventura County Greek Festival.
Lewis said that festival plans are proceeding smoothly,
advertising has began, and both police and private
security personnel will be utilized at the event.
