May 21, 1998
Page 4
renovation at Old Meadows, including budgetary impact and possible grant
funding from the Integrated Waste Management Board for a rubberized
surface. He said that staff met with the Therapeutic Advisory Council to
solicit input and suggestions. Referencing the documentation, he explained
the bid procedure, including deductible alternatives, identified M. D.
Structural Contractors of Thousand Oaks as the low bidder, and said that
staff recommends deduction of three items from the total base bid, lowering
the cost to $44,985, which is within budget.
In response to Jacobsen's inquiry, Marchesano said that it was prudent to
design a contingency amount into the contract because of the significant
amount of demolition work involved, and the contingency covers the
unknown and unexpected aspects of the project. Ward said that if the
contingency fund is not needed, the savings will be carried over to the cash
ending balance for next year.
In response to Gillette's inquiry, Marchesano said that the proposed
equipment for Old Meadows Center has some unique features to
accommodate the needs of individuals with disabilities, and the proposed
safety surface will be similar to that at Lang Ranch Neighborhood Park. He
said that the cracks identified in the play equipment at Lang Ranch will be
corrected, and are the result of a workmanship issue.
It was moved by Gillette, seconded by Holt, and carried 4-0 to
authorize the General Manager to award the contract in care of M. D.
Structural Contractors, for the purchase and installation of play
equipment in the amount of $44,985 and a 10 percent contingency
amount of $4,499; funds shall be taken from the Capital Improvement
account for Old Meadows Park 913-20-710-7137-98-2237-2410.
9. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
None
10. REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Activity And Attendance Report - April, 1998
In response to Lange's inquiry, Washington said that, inadvertently, data
from Borchard Community Center and the Teen Center did not reflect skate
park participation figures.
