October 5, 2000
Page 2
northwest quadrant for a community garden, and said that a Memorandum of
Understanding is now proposed for Board consideration, and of principal
benefit to the District are the requirements for Conejo Valley Community
Garden members to each sign a waiver indemnifying the District, and the
provision of a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy which names the District
as additional insured. He said that the garden is to be operated in
accordance with accepted organic gardening principles.
In response to Holt's inquiries, Sorensen said that the agreement is for five
years, but requires annual renewal, the agreement is based on other
gardens' rules and principles of operation, and Don Jacobs is the primary
author of the document.
Jacobs introduced Fayde Macune, and discussed insurance rates and
considerations, expected garden membership, composting issues, and
possible fund raising products and events, and said that 50 garden plots are
anticipated, and provision for gardeners with disabilities is a possibility.
In response to Board inquiries, Sorensen cited examples of selected cultural
practices to be used in the garden, and said that local 4H Clubs have
expressed interest in the garden, and no planting of trees will be permitted
because of root system problems and the temporary status of the current site.
It was moved by Holt, seconded by Lange, and carried 5-0 to approve
the submitted Memorandum of Understanding for the operation of the
community garden at Conejo Creek Northwest.
8. NEW ITEMS
A. Authorization Of Expenditure Of $5,200 To Expand Hard Drive Capacity
Of AS400 Computer System
Jorgensen reviewed the recent hard drive failure on the District's AS400
system, identified two types of recovery technology, and said that staff
proposes mirroring technology, which is most direct and least costly with the
District's system. He discussed the application to the District's system, and
said staff expects that the $5,200 necessary to complete the project can be
accommodated within the existing data processing budget, and if the
expenditure can not be accommodated within the adopted budget, a budget
adjustment will be brought to the Board in June 2001 when the fiscal year
budget is brought into balance.
