August 8, 2002
Page 2
Lange asked about the bleacher retrofit at North Ranch Playfield. Sorensen
explained that these are actually new bleachers necessary to meet OSHA
standards.
Lange also asked about Skateboard Park improvements to which Sorensen
replied that the improvements are flexible and might include fencing,
landscaping, a security camera, and/or lighting.
Further, Lange raised a question about deep -tine aeration at the dog park.
Sorensen explained that since the soil at the dog park is a hard clay, it's
necessary to make holes 12 inches deep for watering to be effective.
Jacobsen asked about some of the undeveloped park sites and are there plans
for those sites that are difficult to develop? Sorensen indicated that there are two
sites Jacobsen may be referring to — one behind the Mormon Church and one
near La Granada, both off Erbes Road. The District has looked into declaring
them surplus property, however, there was considerable public opposition. The
Area Housing Authority expressed an interest in these properties, but after
review decided they would not be practical for their use. In further discussion,
the question came up about making the areas more aesthetically pleasing to the
neighbors by planting trees. Sorensen said the La Granada area had been
considered for the Oak Tree Forest, but another site was selected. In response
to a question about the cost to maintain these sites, Sorensen replied that weed
abatement and potential liability were the two main concerns.
Lange asked if Old Meadows bank stabilization would be partially covered by
FEMA to which Sorensen replied that it is not a FEMA project.
Jacobsen asked about state-of-the-art lighting at Dos Vientos. Will similar lights
be used to upgrade parks such as Thousand Oaks Park? Sorensen said the
current goal is to upgrade the lights at Borchard Park this year and Peppertree
Playfield next year due to their close proximity to neighbors.
It was moved by Berger, seconded by Lange, and carried 4-0 to adopt
Resolution 080802-A, A Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Conejo
Recreation and Park District Adopting the Fiscal Year 2002-2003 Final
Budget for the District.
8.
