February 19, 2015
Page 2
Accounts Payable Check Registers Total $514,574.85
Payroll $348,600.00
It was moved by Holt, seconded by Lange, and carried 5-0 to approve the
consent calendar as presented.
7. DEFERRED MATTERS
8. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
9. NEW ITEMS
A. Goebel Adult Community Center Caf6 — Proposed Operational Changes and
Notice of Termination of Senior Nutrition Grant
Coleman reported on the staff recommendation to approve notifying the VCAAA of the
District's intent to terminate the contract regarding the senior nutrition grant. She
provided background on the grant's history and its management over the years. By
establishing a restaurant in the kitchen and dining room space at the Goebel Center,
it's hoped more senior patrons could be served and patrons from outside the Center
would be attracted to the space, providing a more vibrant place for seniors to interact
with all ages.
Michael and Debra Floyde, Thousand Oaks residents and owners of Chef It Up!! LLC,
described their vision for the space at Goebel and answered Board member's
questions.
Mel Silberberg, Thousand Oaks, expressed concerns about how this change would
affect low income seniors in the area. Speaking as a senior advocate, he does not
support the recommendation.
Discussion ensued and concerns were voiced regarding the lack of detailed plans for
the space and the ability to continue serving low income seniors. The majority of Board
members agreed that a more formal plan needs to be in place before terminating the
grant. As a result, Staff has been asked to bring back more information at a future
meeting.
10. REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
A.
