Recreation Division Highlights Page 3 of 4 Revised 09.2023
Dos Vientos Community Center
Preschool
Our preschool class is off to a fantastic start for the Fall, with Ms. Pat offering an enriching educational experience for young learners. This class runs five days a week and promises to be a cornerstone of early childhood development in our community.
Rec Van
In a heartwarming community outreach event, staff members embarked on a day of fun and connection with local children. Driving first to Spring Meadow Park, and then to Sycamore Neighborhood Park, we brought out lawn games, sports, and crafts. Crafts included canvas drawstring bags and pencil pouches with ink stamps, as well as kites you could color on with fabric markers. We had a total of 8 children come out to enjoy the RecVan.
Westlake Senior Programs
The senior classes at the Westlake Community Room have kicked off, bringing a renewed sense of vitality to our community members. These classes, including Tai Chi, Art, Yoga, and Mah Jongg, provide a supportive and stimulating environment for seniors to engage, stay active, and foster meaningful connections.
Thousand Oaks Community Center
Kids Club
Thousand Oaks Center is expanding our Kid’s Club Program! Our classes will start back up at Shadow Apartments on Friday, September 22, and will run through May 24. Participants in grades K-5 will explore a new theme each week through arts & crafts, games, special activities, and more. In addition to our regular session, we are introducing Science & Homework Help which will run on select Tuesdays starting September 19 through May 21. Participants will get to explore short and long-term science projects for the first half hour and receive homework help for the last half hour of class.
Movies at the Park
Thousand Oaks Center had about 120 participants come out and enjoy our last movie showing of Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, on
August 25. Movie goers won prizes by participating in a scavenger hunt or trivia. We will wrap up our 2023 Summer Movies at the Park series with Top Gun: Maverick on Friday, September 29.
