CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />FEBRUARY 20, 1997 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />GOEBEL SENIOR ADULT CENTER <br />M I N U T E S <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Jacobsen called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m., and <br />Berger led the flag salute. <br />2, ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Berger, Gillette, Holt, Jacobsen, and <br />Lange <br />Directors Absent: None <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward; Administrators Jorgensen, <br />Sorensen, and Washington; and Executive Secretary Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Sports Pros - Dennis Gass <br />Gass highlighted activities and events at Borchard Community <br />Park, and presented an overview and displayed a slide <br />presentation of Sports Pros, a contracted after school program <br />for children held at Borchard Center. He said that the <br />program supplements District offerings, provides recreation <br />activities in sports, crafts, and games, and furnishes <br />transportation. He acknowledged the presence of Bruce Carr <br />and Mitch Leichter, former District employees, who are now <br />part of the Sports Pros program. <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />David McCoy spoke of the need for a skate facility for in-line <br />skaters and skate boarders in the Newbury Park area, and <br />identified reasons that such a facility would benefit the <br />community. <br />In response to Board inquiries, Sorensen said that staff has <br />researched skate facilities in Los Angeles and Orange <br />Counties, the Tri -Valley Roller Hockey League has an agreement <br />with the City of Moorpark to build a skate facility, and he <br />discussed relevant liability and legislative issues. Sorensen <br />invited McCoy to contact staff to further share his input, <br />which may impact consideration of the issue in the upcoming <br />budget. <br />
