CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT
BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING
JULY 13, 2000
7:30 P.M.
GOEBEL SENIOR ADULT CENTER
MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE
Chair Berger called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., and Lange led the flag salute.
2. ROLL CALL
Directors Present: Berger, Holt, Jacobsen, and Lange
Directors Absent: Gibson
Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Administrators Benton, Jorgensen, and
Sorensen, and Executive Secretary Ohren
3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS
4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC
Bob McQuaid expressed concern about the placement of both horse and dog
facilities at Conejo Creek Park, and urged amelioration techniques.
Debby Carlon! noted the ample discussion, numerous workshops, and inclusive
public hearing process held for Conejo Creek Park, and spoke in support of the dog
park facility.
Marilee Ullmann expressed concern for the future safety and well being of
equestrians, dog owners, and neighbors at Conejo Creek Park. She said the focus
group was biased, and a recent survey indicated that 96 percent of neighborhood
residents do not want a dog park facility. She cited Dr. Robert M. Miller, a local
veterinarian, and others whom she said maintain that the placement of both a horse
and dog facility at the same site raises issues of safety.
Bob Olson said that he was neutral on the dog park, but dogs do not belong around
horses, and urged cooperation and compliance with dog leash laws in the
equestrian area.
Berger read written statements from Teri Young and Paul E. Nicholson, both of
whom wrote in opposition to the proposed location of the dog park facility.
