Lange, Director <br />Joe Gibson, Director <br />As a result of the Presidential disaster declaration, "Caiifornia Firestorms of 2003 (DR - <br />1498)", the State of California is eligible for federal assistance through the Hazard Mitigation <br />Grant Program. The total available funding for the five declared counties of San Diego, <br />Riverside, Ventura, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino is approximately $14,000,000 dollars. <br />HMGP grants are provided on a cost -share basis of 75 percent federal share and 25 percent <br />non-federal match. <br />Hazard mitigation activities are aimed at reducing or eliminating future damages. Eligible <br />activities include planning and cost-effective mitigation projects, such as fuel modification <br />and flood and mud flow mitigation. The District's proposal will focus on fire mitigation in <br />the Conejo Valley, with a total activity cost of $120,000. Of this amount, $90,000 will be the <br />federal requested share and $30,000 will be the District's match. <br />The federal funding is provided under the Robert T. Stafford Emergency Assistance and <br />Disaster Relief Act (Stafford Act) through the Federal Emergency Management Agency <br />(FEMA), and the State of California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (OES). OES <br />is responsible for identifying program priorities, reviewing. applications and forwarding <br />recommendations for funding to FEMA.
