ABaiph Anderson
&Associates
February 26, 2014
To: Shelly Howell, Human Resources Supervisor
Conejo Recreation and Park District
From: Doug Johnson, Vice President
Jeff McMurdo, Consultant
Ralph Andersen &Associates
Subject: Aquatics Program Director
At your request, Ralph Andersen &Associates has reviewed the District's request to reclassify
the current full-time Aquatics Program Director to a full-time Recreation Supervisor Aquatics
and placed at the same salary range as the Recreation Supervisor within the District. As part of
this review, the current Aquatics Program Director and the draft Recreation Supervisor Aquatics
class specifications were utilized. The following presents an overview and analysis of this
reclassification and the resulting recommendation.
Overview of Request and Analysis
Conejo Recreation and Park District is looking to reclassify the Aquatics Program Director to a
Recreation Supervisor Aquatics in order to provide direct supervision of the aquatics program.
Currently, the Aquatics Program Director is responsible for assisting in organizing, leading, and
conducting aquatics programs whereas the new classification of Recreation Supervisor Aquatics
will be responsible for the direct supervision of the program including planning, organizing,
directing, and supervising aquatics activities and services.
This new Recreation Supervisor Aquatics position requires a Bachelor's degree in recreation and
four years full time experience in aquatic programs and pool management, including
supervisory and budgetary experience.
In comparing the Recreation Supervisor Aquatics classification to other classes in the District,
the duties are similar in scope and responsibility to the Recreation Supervisor. Both the
Recreation Supervisor and this new classification are responsible for the direct supervision of
recreation programs.
Recommendation
Based on the above, the Aquatics Program Director should be reclassified to Recreation
Supervisor Aquatics and placed at Range 57 on the District's salary schedule. This
reclassification places the Recreation Supervisor Aquatics at the same range as the Recreation
Supervisor, a classification with a similar scope of duties and responsibilities, a comparable level
of difficulty, and requires a similar level of education and experience, i.e. Bachelor's degree and
four years of experience.
1 TF(tdilrnn of E.ceellenre.
