Potential Alternative Park Names for Discussion
Proposed names
On January 24, 2014, the Park Naming Committee (Directors Jones and Huffer) met to
consider a variety of potential names for the future park. The Committee agreed to share five
potential names with the Board of Directors for consideration and discussion.
1. Los Arboles Community Park or Arboles Community Park (generic Spanish word for
trees and Avenida de los Arboles is a one of the main streets along the park).
2. Chaparral Community Park (Chaparral plant community covers the hillsides of many
local mountains)
3. Chumash Community Park (Native inhabitants of area /first people)
4. Red Tail Community Park (Red Tail Hawks are often seen taking advantage of the
favorable winds above the park)
5. Los Encinos Community Park (Encino is an alternative word for `oak" in Spanish)
The committee is also interested in considering the potential to include the Spanish word for
trail into the park name, since trails will be the predominant feature and recreational outlet on
the planned park. There are several Spanish words for trail with subtle distinctions:
6. Los Senderos Community Park (path)
7. Las Veredas Community Park (path, lane, trail, sidewalk)
8. Camino de Tierra Community Park (dirt, earthen path or road)
HILLCREST CENTER 403 WEST HILLCREST DRIVE, THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA 91360-4223
(805) 495-6471 FAX: (805) 497-3199 E-MAIL: parks@crpd.org
