C@IMGXo
GENERAL MANAGER
Jim Friedl
DATE: February 6, 2014
TO: Board of Directors
FROM: Jim Friedl, General Man ag r
SUBJECT: Alternative Names for La R Community Park
RECOMMENDATION
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Joe Gibson, Chair
Ed Jones, Vice Chair
George Lange, Director
Susan L. Holt, Director
Chuck Huffer, Director
GENERAL MANAGER EMERITUS
Tex Ward
Consider and discuss potential alternative names for Lang Ranch Community Park.
DISCUSSION
The 124 -acre Conejo Recreation and Park District owned property south of Avenida de los
Arboles between Erbes Road and Westlake Boulevard is known as the Lang Ranch
Community Park.
The name "Lang Ranch Community Park" is similar to the existing "Lang Ranch Neighborhood
Park." These two park locations are just a few hundred yards apart and the similar names have
created some confusion about which park or location is being referred to in conversations.
The Park Naming Committee recently met to consider potential alternative names for the Lang
Ranch Community Park.
Guidelines and Policies
Preliminary Guidelines for Park Naming Criteria
The District's guidelines for naming parks indicate that any one or a combination of the
following factors may be utilized to designate the naming of a park site:
1. Historical reference
2. Identification of Location (i.e. neighborhood, school, area, street, subdivision)
3. Citizen input
4. Honor of donor, individual or family
5. Significant feature
6. Stipulated with deed
403 West Hillcrest Drive I Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-4223
(805) 495-6471 FAX: (805) 497-3199 Email: parks@crpd.org
