December 16, 1997
Page 5
11. DEPARTMENT REPORTS
A. Park Division Report
Sorensen reported that the City of Thousand Oaks awarded a contract for
the construction of the Newbury Gateway Park, and January 12 is the
anticipated date for the beginning of construction. Jacobsen and Gillette
agreed that a groundbreaking ceremony would be appropriate. Ward said
that staff would follow up on a groundbreaking ceremony.
Continuing, Sorensen said that staff met with Operating Engineers and
received the construction drawings for Park Site "C", the neighborhood park
site across from the equestrian facility on Lynn Road, and February 1 is the
anticipated date for the beginning of construction. Jacobsen said that a
groundbreaking ceremony would be appropriate, and Gillette suggested a
news release. Sorensen said that after a firm date is established, the Board
will be contacted.
Sorensen said that Lang Ranch received only minor damage from the
recent storm. In response to Board inquiries, staff said that the name of the
park was set previously. Ward clarified the names of several parks, and he
noted that there is currently only one Lang Ranch designated park site, and
the Oakbrook Regional Park, with the Chumash Interpretive Center, is a
County park.
In response to Lange's inquiry, Sorensen said that the anticipated opening
of the Lang Ranch Park site will be March.
B. Recreation Division Report
Washington reported that winter registration has begun; the brochure can
be accessed on the Internet; the Young Artists Ensemble presentation of
The Secret Garden has been very well received; and a large, enthusiastic
group enjoyed the Silver Starlight Ball.
