May B, 1997
Page 5
D. Approval Of $67,000 For Purpose Of Adding Park Elements For
Newbury Gateway Park
Sorensen reviewed information regarding planned park development and
landscape improvements for the Newbury Gateway Park. He said that
Caltrans criteria provides only for scenic enhancements and not park
improvements, and therefore the picnic tables, barbecues and play structure
were not approved; it is staff recommendation that the project be completed
with District funds; the play area would still be ADA accessible; three picnic
tables, instead of five, would be installed; and the barbecues would be
eliminated, as requested by the local homeowners association.
Gillette said that he envisioned benches as park components. In response to
his inquiry, Sorensen said that the City of Thousand Oaks' contribution to the
park is unknown at this time, and the $67,000 allocation would be sufficient
to fund the benches.
It was moved by Gillette and seconded by Lange to approve the
allocation of $67,000 from PDF for the purpose of adding those park
elements for Newbury Gateway Park which were deleted by Caltrans,
plus three park benches and trash receptacles.
In response to Jacobsen's concern, Sorensen identified the other parks in
Zone IV, and ,Jacobsen suggested that the potential impact of the motion on
other Zone IV parks be assessed.
The motion carried unanimously.
Gillette suggested that, at the park's completion or at any future dedication
ceremony, David Green and the Lang Ranch Corporation be remembered.
9. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION
None
10. REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Tri -Agency Survey
In response to Board concem's, Ward said that some questions are expected
to reflect voter assessment of various local governmental agencies, and four
changes identified by the School District plus one change, relative to
community child care, were made to the last draft. Jorgensen said that some
changes were made to reflect a more Conejo Valley focused questionnaire.
Ward noted that the report will allow responses to be cross tabbed and
