Minutes 1-18-95
Page 5
Gillette suggested start Curtner investigate: an alcohol
prohibition for the park, improvements for potential
programing opportunities in the park, placement and
modification of the architectural design of the restroom,
and mitigation measures to ensure homeowner privacy.
Sorensen noted that Shapell is required to develop a six-
foot high masonry wall in that area. Gillette said that
an additional basketball court could be added in the
future if warranted, and he stated his support of the
motion detector lighting on the pathways, if the majority
of the community is supportive of it.
In response to Ireland's inquiry, Gillette and Sorensen
indicated that staff will continue to investigate and
work sensitively with the homeowners' group to
accommodate the issues raised, but decisions on major
cost issues such as an expanded tot -lot or an additional
basketball court would require specific Board direction.
Ireland thanked the Board and staff.
Frank Fay, representing Shapell Industries, thanked staff
for the positive process, and he clarified that there
would be one basketball court at this time and that, if
another one is to be added in the future, it would be at
District's expense, not Shapell's.
Holt restated the motion.
The motion carried unanimously, 5-0.
Gillette expressed appreciation to the homeowners and
Shapell Industries. Ward stated that the park
represented a partnership involving the District, Shapell
and the homeowners, he thanked staff for its efforts,
and he said he looks forward to a continued positive
dialogue.
In response to Jacobsen's inquiry, Sorensen said that
park construction is expected to begin in May, although
delays are possible.
