Minutes 8-8-96 <br />Page 4 <br />8. NEW ITEMS <br />A. Authorization To Assist The City Of Westlake Village In <br />Implementing Its 15th Anniversary Celebration <br />Washington reviewed the District's involvement in <br />Westlake's tenth anniversary celebration, he referenced <br />the preliminary budget, and he said that the District's <br />involvement would be limited to the entertainment aspect <br />of the celebration. <br />In response to Board inquiry, staff said that this is an <br />opportunity to assist a neighboring city, and <br />participation is consistent with the mission of the <br />District. Berger stated his support of the effort. <br />It was moved by Berger, seconded by Jacobsen, and carried <br />unanimously, 5-0, to authorize staff to assist the City <br />of Westlake Village in implementation, of its 15th <br />anniversary celebration. <br />9• ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION <br />A. Russell Park Access Strips <br />Sorensen referenced the submitted documentation, reviewed <br />the District's involvement with and ownership and cost <br />of maintenance of the Russell access strips, identified <br />current park concerns, and said that homeowners are <br />pleased with the current situation. <br />He said that additional safety and lighting issues exist; <br />the homeowners' association has offered to purchase new <br />lighting if the District will install it; $4,100 has been <br />raised thus far, and this will be a phased project. <br />Jacobsen emphasized that the purpose of the access strips <br />is to facilitate safe access to the park facility and the <br />school. <br />10• REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS <br />A. National Recreation And Park Association Gold Medal <br />Awards Correspondence <br />In response to Holt's inquiry, Washington said he would <br />be attending the conference. <br />
