September 3, 9998
Page 5
I. Budget Performance Report - July 1998 - No Comment
11. DEPARTMENT REPORTS
A. Park Division Report
Sorensen reported that October 1 will be the public hearing regarding the
Conejo Creek Master Plan. The second public hearing for consideration of
approval for the Master Plan will take place on December 3. There have
been approximately six focus group meetings and two community
workshops attended by 65-70 people each. More focus group meetings
and community workshops will occur before December 3.
At this point, Gillette excused himself and left the room due to a conflict of
interest regarding the following issue.
Sorensen went on to say the City of Thousand Oaks is proposing the
deletion of a park from the 1971 General Plan, which identified a 25 -acre
park on California Lutheran University property that was to be developed by
the District. The reason for addressing it tonight is to make the Board
aware of the City's intentions. It is not part of the District's Master Pian.
Sorensen stated that an analysis has been done on the park needs of that
area and the conclusion drawn was that all neighborhood, community parks
and playfields needs have been met. The City is intending to remove
reference to the park from the General Plan. Sorensen stated that unless
there were objections, staff intended to provide a letter to the City of
Thousand Oaks stating that the District was satisfied with the removal of the
General Plan reference to a District park on California Lutheran University
property. The Board had no objections.
Holt asked if any staff had a map of Eve's Hill, which she believes now to be
Tarantula Hili. Sorensen stated he would follow-up to find its origination.
B. Recreation Division Report
Washington stated that the summer programs have concluded and the hot
weather added to an increase in recreation swim use. Fall Program begins
September 23. The Children's Festival of the Arts will be held on
Saturday, September 26 at Conejo Creek North. On Labor Day, beginning
at 10:30 a.m., Celebrate Parks events are scheduled throughout the day.
