CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 9, 1998 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />GOEBEL SENIOR ADULT CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Lange called the meeting to order at 7:38 p.m., and Ms. Sugar Maja led the <br />flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Berger, Holt, Jacobsen, and Lange <br />Directors Absent: Gillette <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Administrators Jorgensen, Sorensen, and <br />Washington, and Executive Secretary Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Teen Center Presentation - Brenda Coleman <br />Coleman presented an overview of Teen Center events and programs, and a <br />videotape of skateboard and in-line activities. She introduced Jay Dodwell, of the <br />Teen Center staff, answered questions, and said that, currently, 622 teens are <br />enrolled in center programs, the number is expected to increase, a $5,000 <br />donation was received from Amgen, 300 youths have submitted waivers and use <br />District skateboard ramps, and all users are required to wear protective gear. <br />Lange stated his appreciation for the efforts of staff. <br />Presentation Of Conejo Valley Historical Society Annual Report <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Nick Quidwai stated his appreciation for the excellent service provided by the <br />District. He said that General Manager Ward is held in the highest esteem by park <br />and recreation professionals state-wide, the public was not properly informed of <br />the recently canceled COSCA (Conejo Open Space Conservation Agency) <br />meeting, and he regretted that more citizens are not involved in the public process, <br />Berger, a District COSCA representative, said that the July 8 meeting was only the <br />second COSCA meeting canceled in 14 years, but he regretted that Quidwai was <br />not informed. <br />
