Authorization To Renew Property Leases From Southern California <br />Edison <br />Sorensen identified the lease parcels to be renewed, their locations, and <br />revised fees, which he said are nominal. He stated staff recommendation. <br />In response to Gillette's inquiry regarding "prudent avoidance" concerns, <br />Sorensen said that he is not aware of any liability issues accruing to public <br />agencies leasing Edison property. <br />It was moved by Jacobsen, seconded by Holt, and carried 4-0 to <br />authorize the General Manager to renew the licenses for the Park <br />District lease of Southern California Edison properties P73VO28-3-35, <br />P72VO17-3-35, and P73VOO8-3-35 for five-year terms from July 1, 1998 <br />to June 30, 2003. <br />C. Authorization To Locate A Blue Star Memorial Plaque And Relocation <br />Of The Huberth Plaque At Conejo Creek North Park <br />Sorensen discussed the National Council of Garden Clubs' Blue Star <br />Memorial Program and their request to place a marker in Conejo Creek <br />North Park near the Veterans Memorial. He noted the presence of Arlene <br />Hopper and President Beverly Brune. He said that the purchase and <br />installation costs would be borne by the Garden Clubs. <br />Additionally, he reviewed the proposal to relocate and rededicate near the <br />Veterans Memorial the Eric Huberth Freedom Tree. He said that the tree's <br />location and dedication ceremony for the plaque are being discussed, but <br />an exact date has not as yet been identified. <br />In responses to Board inquiries, Brune highlighted the organization, the <br />program, and proposed plaque. She said that vandalism has not been a <br />major problem, but when it has occurred, the Garden Clubs and the agency <br />involved work together to rectify the situation, and Cal Trans frequently does <br />the installation. <br />In response to Gillette's inquiry, Sorensen said that the tentative location for <br />the plaque is a contemplative spot, and staff is seeking to avoid a <br />proliferation of plaques in one area. Gillette expressed concern about <br />possible vandalism. Holt suggested that the west side of the lake be <br />
