June 8, 2000
Page 3
B. Approval to Continue Public Hearings for LIVID 94-1 (Dos Vientos Ranch)
from June 8 to June 22.
Sorensen recommended the continuance of the Public Hearing for LIVID
94-1 to June 22 so the two hearings could be done at the same time.
It was moved by Jacobson, seconded by Holt, and carried 5-0, to
continue Public Hearings for LIVID 92-1 from June 8 to June 22.
C. Authorization to Award Contract to Karleskint-Crum, Inc., in the Amount
of $339,773 for Construction of Kimber Park, First Phase
Sorensen reported that substantial funds have been made available
through a preliminary agreement with the City staff, and that the City
Council will consider full funding of the park site including Phase II
amenities later in June or early July. Therefore, it is recommended to
reject the bids and bid the entire site with one contractor doing both the
construction and the maintenance.
The City made a request regarding the timing of the groundbreaking to
coordinate with their official approval of the additional funds necessary
for Phase II. The date of the groundbreaking will be announced to the
Board at a later date.
The revised recommendation to the Board is to not award the bids, and
authorize staff to go out to bid again for both Phases I and II.
In a question from Lange, Sorensen said that a sizable amount has been
raised by private citizens thus far. District is contributing in force labor by
doing the grading for the site.
Replying to questions from Board, several neighbors in the Sunset area
have contacted the District, and were interested in a similar procedure
for their undeveloped site at Northwood. Sorensen said that a Master
Plan on the Northwood Playfield will be recommended to the Board in
upcoming budget considerations.
It was moved by Gibson, seconded by Holt, and carried 5-0, to
accept the revised staff recommendation not to accept the bid from
Karleskint-Crum, Inc., and proceed to rebid the construction of Kimber
Park, both Phases I & II.
