December 2, 1999
Page 2
8. NEW ITEMS
A. Approval Of Memorandum Of Understanding For Conejo Valley Days
Kickoff Picnic - 2000
Lindsey referenced the documentation, identified Borchard Community Park
as the proposed location for the event, and said that the picnic has been held
successfully at that location for two years with no major incidents, and the
2000 event will again include an auto show of vintage cars. She noted the
presence of Vern Miller, Conejo Valley Rotary and Event Chair.
In response to Board inquiries, Lindsey said that the rain date would be March
25, and Sorensen said that the Borchard asphalt project is scheduled for the
summer of 2000 and, therefore, would not impact the event.
It was moved by Berger, seconded by Jacobson, and carried 5-0 to
authorize staff to use the submitted Memorandum of Understanding to
regulate the Conejo Valley Days Kickoff Picnic - 2000.
B. Approval To Place Conejo Creek South Baseball Field Planning Project
In 1999-2000 Capital Improvement Projects Budget
Sorensen stated that the approved Conejo Creek South Master Plan includes
an adult -sized baseball field at the southern end of the parcel, and, as a result
of the difficulty experienced by Conejo Valley and Thousand Oaks Little
Leagues retaining their field allocation at the high schools, both have
approached staff with a request to begin planning for the construction of the
field. He requested that the project be identified as a priority C item in the
1999-00 Capital Improvement Projects Budget at a cost of $5,000, which
would facilitate staff working with Takata and Associates to develop a planning
and cost program for this project. He noted the presence of Little League
representatives.
In response to Lange's inquiry, Sorensen said that issues of site infrastructure
are not fully known at this time and must, therefore, be studied, Little League
has indicated a willingness to participate both in capital and maintenance costs
of the site, and cost has not yet been identified.
Tim Heyne, representing both Conejo Valley and Thousand Oaks Little
Leagues, said there is unanimous agreement regarding the need for a full size
baseball diamond for senior league programs in Conejo Valley, and both
leagues have made a commitment to help fund and maintain the facility.
