September 20, 2001
Page 3
Sorensen discussed success of Ride -On program and their recent fundraiser.
Ride -On now requesting help with three items to assist in program
development:
1) A portable round pen — freeway noise a problem for some riders in the
program. The pen would mitigate some of the noise and allow the rider to
concentrate better on tasks. (Cost - $7,000)
2) A four-wheel drive utility vehicle — expectation is that Ride -On will share
use of vehicle with the rangers. (Cost - $8,000)
3) One of the barns needs to be re -roofed. Barn was originally going to be
demolished and a new structure built. A new roof will save money and
maintain rural appearance. (Cost - $6,000)
Bryan McQueeney of Chatsworth, director of Ride -On spoke giving
information that he has received estimates and informal opinions from
engineers and will have a formal opinion in a few weeks. Concern that new
building will turn other barn from a "quaint' building into an eyesore and
cause project to become too expensive. McQueeney also praised the
outstanding partnership between Ride -On and the District.
Questions raised by Chairman Jacobsen included timeframe and whether
work will be finished before inclement weather; and time available to serve
others in the community. McQueeney indicated that there is a diverse range
of programs and services available.
Moved by Director Lange, seconded by Director Jacobsen, and
approved 4-0 to approve adding Capital Items to FY 2001-2002
Budget.
9.
