July 19, 2001
Page 2
Gibson said he believes that the District has a commitment to the equestrian
community for use of the Waverly Park site, and urged that staff investigate other
community sites for the runners. Holt concurred.
Jacobsen and Gibson requested that staff investigate the issue and report back to
the Board. Holt concurred with the request.
Kevin Lindsey, representing Thousand Oaks High School Cross Country Team,
said that the Waverly site is used because of its facilities such as restrooms and
water, and runners strive to be sensitive to the equestrians and are willing to
compromise, and the site is only used once or twice every two weeks.
Jacobsen stated he does not envision that the equestrian's use of the site should be
to the complete exclusion of other groups, and he is receptive to the controlled use
of the site by any community group. Berger said that it is the responsibility of Conejo
Valley Unified School District, not CRPD staff, to find a facility for the Thousand
Oaks High School Cross Country Team.
Barbara Kloster said that the equestrians avoid the site on Thursdays, and there
are other places in the community for the runners.
5.
