CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 25, 2002 <br />7:30 P.M. <br />GOEBEL SENIOR ADULT CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Jacobsen called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m., and Holt led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen, and Lange <br />Directors Absent: Berger <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Administrators Jorgensen, Scott, and <br />Sorensen, and Executive Secretary Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Presentation By Brenda Hunter, Executive Director Of Conejo Valley <br />Neighborhoods For Learning (NfL) <br />Scott introduced Hunter, and highlighted her professional and academic <br />achievements. Hunter presented an overview of the program, and stated that <br />Crowley House is the headquarters of the program; parenting, early pregnancy, and <br />preschool classes will be some of the services provided; currently, the interview <br />process is underway for teachers; the target population for preschool activities will <br />be 0 to 5 years old; bilingual instruction will be offered; the program is funded by <br />First Five Ventura; a three-year grant has been secured; other funds will be sought; <br />and the location of services was, in part, determined by a proximity to under <br />performing schools. She invited all to a kickoff family picnic on August 18, and <br />thanked the District for its support. <br />Jacobsen acknowledged Gibson's involvement in, and support of, the program. <br />Board members expressed appreciation for Hunter's efforts, and asked to be kept <br />informed of the program's progress. <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Mark Langton, Thousand Oaks, described a trail confrontation on Tuesday, July 23 <br />beiween a hiker and a mountain biker.
