March 28, 2002 <br />Page 4 <br />Jack Cunningham, area director of ETI, spoke of ETIi's support of children's <br />equestrian activities, safety concerns involving young equestrians, and said that <br />notification regarding site closure would be difficult. <br />Sue Taylor, spoke in support of shared usage of the facility, and said that it is a <br />limited amount of time being requested, education is important, and the Cross <br />Country Team is composed of many outstanding young people. <br />Marilee Ullmann thanked the District for the round pen, asked for respect for all <br />points of views, and spoke of the needs of equestrians, the equestrian rural <br />heritage of the community, and safety concerns. <br />Robert Radnoti, head coach of Thousand Oaks, Cross Country Team, discussed <br />Thursday Thrills and schedules. He said that a year-round calendar of runner <br />events could be provided, alternate sites have been investigated and found not <br />suitable, education for runners should be enhanced, a community service project <br />would be considered, and he urged a compromise approach. <br />Ben Van Auken, high school student, spoke in support of the Cross Country <br />Team's use of Waverly, and said other sites are not suitable, and students are <br />courteous to equestrians and strive to be sensitive to the environment. <br />Mike Krestyn, captain of the Cross Country Team, spoke in support of the team's <br />use of Waverly, and said the activities build character. <br />Chuck Huffer spoke in support the Cross Country Team's use of Waverly, and <br />said it is consistent with District policy that property should be multiuse, and he <br />noted examples of coexistence at other sites. <br />Terri Cunningham, president of Equestrian Trails, Inc of Chatsworth, spoke of <br />safety concerns of multiuse trails, and encouraged consideration of those issues. <br />Bob Olson spoke of safety concerns involving runners and equestrians. <br />Adam Smith said he is both a horse owner and runner, the site is a public park, <br />allowances must be made, the amount of time requested by the runners is minimal. <br />Ashley Patterson, student body president of Thousand Oaks High School, said <br />she has observed no problems with equestrians, and spoke in support of the Cross <br />Country Team's use of Waverly, and the value of the team in students' lives. <br />
