July 24, 2003
Page 4
11. DEPARTMENT REPORTS
A. Park Division Report
Sorensen noted the Conejo Creek South Groundbreaking Ceremony on July
26, 2003 and 9 a.m.
He said that an RFP for an operator of the Chumash Interpretative Center has
been circulated, and staff expects that the issue will be presented for Board
consideration in September.
Relative to expansion of Rancho Conejo softball fields, Gibson recommended
that the existing turf first be improved.
B. Recreation Division Report
Scott said that the rental cost of a bunny suit is such that the purchase of the
$800 suit was the rationale for the proposal.
She reported that approximately 900 7th and 81" graders attended the Mid -
Summer Dance on July 12; 90 participants attended the Explore China camp at
Cameron Center, which concluded with a special program for parents; and the
next Concert in the Park, featuring Tin Drum, a contemporary pop band, is
scheduled for July 27.
C. Management Services Division Report
Jorgensen reported that the Risk Management salary increase reflected in the
2003-2004 Budget is due to the increased amount of time spent by the
Administrator, Management Services on Risk Management issues and
decreased time spent on Finance and Personnel issues. He reviewed a recent
Workers' Compensation case.
In response to Gibson's inquiry, Jorgensen said that, currently, the District is
100 percent self-insured for Workers' Compensation. Gibson requested a
Workers Compensation report be presented to the Board.
D. General Manager's Report
Ward presented a brief legislative update relevant to the District.
