CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />April 8, 2004 <br />7.30 P.M. <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Holt called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m., and Ohren led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Berger, Gibson, Holt and Lange <br />Directors Absent: Jacobsen <br />Staff Present: General Manager Ward, Assistant General Manager Friedl, <br />Administrators Benton and Lewanda, Recreation Manager Lindsey, Outreach <br />Workers Martinez and Ruwhiu and Executive Secretary Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br />Outreach Program — Karen Lindsey <br />Lindsey said that the Outreach Program was established in 1980, and is jointly <br />funded by the City of Thousand Oaks, Conejo Recreation and Park District and <br />Conejo Valley Unified School District. She introduced Outreach Workers Pete <br />Martinez and Todd Ruwhiu, who presented an overview of the program, and said <br />their focus is at -risk and non-involved youth. They identified the three program <br />components as recreation programs, community outreach and school site <br />interaction; discussed goals of the program and typical teen issues; and presented <br />teen statements of appreciation for the Outreach Workers and Program. <br />In response to Board inquiries, they said that there are currently two Outreach <br />Workers, and a means of transportation would be very helpful to the program. <br />Board members expressed appreciation for their efforts <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />5. APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />It was moved by Berger, seconded by Lange, and carried 4-0, to approve the <br />agenda as presented. <br />
