NEW ITEMS
A. Renewal Of Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) Between Conejo
Recreation & Park District And Las Flores Community Garden
Friedl provided background information. He stated that Las Flores
Community Garden (LFCG) is proposing a basically status quo renewal of
the five-year agreement between the District and LFCG, and he noted the
name change from Conejo Valley Community Garden to Las Flores
Community Garden. He introduced Carol Nierman, Vice President of the
community garden.
Nierman provided an overview of LFGG's accomplishments, including
membership status, site improvements, crop production, Manna
contribution and community outreach, and she answered questions. She
said that approximately 50 plots are rented, over $1,000 in fruits and
vegetables have been donated to Manna, the plot fee is $40 per year with a
potential fee increase next year.
Gibson expressed concern relative to adequate parking and needed MOU
provisions regarding minimum plot size and height restrictions on
structures. He suggested that the issue be addressed by staff and brought
back to the Board.
In response to Board inquiries, Friedl said that adequate parking space has
not been an issue; and, if Board members desired, a clause could be added
in the MOU indicating that representatives of both agencies would meet and
confer, relative to minimum plot size and height of plant support structures.
It was moved by Holt, seconded by Jacobsen, and carried 4-1, with
Gibson voting in opposition, to authorize the General Manager to
approve a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
between Conejo Recreation & Park District and the Las Flores
Community Garden (LFCG), for the operation of the community
garden at Conejo Creek Northwest.
