May 25, 2006
Page 3
Relative to park facilities, Friedl said that the largest project completed in
this fiscal year is Sycamore Neighborhood Park in Dos Vientos, the second
notable accomplishment is the installation of lights at the Conejo Creek Dog
Park, and the largest of the CIP projects are currently "paper projects" such
as Lang Ranch Community Park, McCrea Ranch, and Conejo ' Creek
Southwest, which are important if and when funds become available.
Relative to funding, Friedl said that Quimby Fees have generated
approximately $2,000,000 this fiscal year, which is unusually high due to a
few large projects and high land values; the past year Santa Monica
Mountains Conservancy (SMMC) awarded the District a $750,000 grant for
the preservation and restoration of the McCrea Ranch; and a significant
source of capital funds is expected to be generated through a cooperative
agreement involving the City of Thousand Oaks, Conejo Valley Unified
School District, CRPD and Shapell Industries.
Friedl identified projects, such as repairs, beautification, maintenance and
improvements, that are the result of cooperative ventures with community
partners at such locations as Stagecoach Inn, Chumash Interpretative
Center, Walnut Grove Equestrian Center, and the equestrian site at Conejo
Creek West.
Additionally Friedl identified projects not in the Capital Projects Budget,
which will be worked on in the coming months, including Dos Vientos
playfield site, Teen Center gymnasium, and relocation of Conejo Service
Yard.
Continuing, relative to the Capital Improvement Projects for 2006-07, Friedl
said that the five largest projects include Conejo Creek South Phase II,
Lang Ranch Community Park, McCrea Ranch, Community Aquatics Center
at Califomia Lutheran University (CLU) and Northwood Neighborhood Park.
In response to Friedl's observation that a nonprofit support agency would
be beneficial for the McCrea Ranch, Holt suggested that Conejo Valley
Historical Society be considered.
Gibson requested considered be given to installation of safety nets at
Borchard playfields. Jacobsen requested a list of all remaining undeveloped
District sites.
