CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />NOVEMBER 5, 2009 <br />7:30 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Holt called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. and Ed Holt led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen, Lange, Short <br />Directors Absent: None <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Benton, Hare and Lewanda, <br />Recreation Manager Wiley, Recreation Supervisor Laufenberg, Recreation Therapist Pinson <br />and Executive Assistant Ohren <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Ed Holt, Thousand Oaks, invited everyone to participate in the November 11 Veterans Day <br />celebration at Conejo Creek Park North, presented by Conejo Valley Chapter of the Military <br />Order of the World Wars and the Michael A. DiRaimondo, Chapter #750 Military Order of <br />the Purple Heart. He discussed the event, and thanked the District for use of its facility. <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATION <br />Therapeutics Presentation — Recreation Supervisor Laufenberg <br />Laufenberg introduced Devon Pinson, Recreation Therapist. Referencing a slide <br />presentation, Laufenberg provided an overview of four projects initiated through the <br />Therapeutics Unit during the last year. The four projects are: 1.) the Playground Pals <br />Program, a weekly free drop-in play date program on the Old Meadows playground; 2. ) an <br />eight week summer Social Skills Instruction Program; 3.) the Special Recreation Network, an <br />area wide invitational network group formed with the goal of furthering recreation for special <br />populations in the wider area; and 4.) the new Conejo Packers Flag Football Program, which <br />culminates in a super bowl against the Oxnard Vikings on November 7. <br />Laufenberg announced that generous memorial donations have been made to the <br />Therapeutics Unit by the family and friends of Grayson Wolpert, a young, very active <br />volunteer and supporter of the Therapeutics Program. <br />Board members commended Laufenberg and her staff, expressed appreciation for their <br />efforts, and thanked Wolpert family and friends for their generous donations. <br />
