CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 15, 2010 <br />7:30 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Chair Gibson called the meeting to order at 7:33 P.M., and Short led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen, Lange, Short <br />Directors Absent: <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrator Lewanda, Parks Superintendant Kouba, <br />Recreation Manager Lindsey, and Executive Assistant Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATION <br />Conejo Valley Botanic Garden — President Jean Riley and Vice President Beverly <br />Brune <br />Jean Riley and Beverly Brune tnanKed the District for its support, the recent grant and <br />repairs, and distributed a financial summary. They highlighted the Garden's activities, events, <br />work projects, the year's accomplishments, current vegetation, and recent improvements. <br />They expressed appreciation for District involvement and support. They indicated that it has <br />been a very good year. <br />Board members thanked Riley and Brune for their efforts at the Garden. <br />Thousand Oaks Recreational Options Project -- Akbar Alikhan, 2010 Graduate Fellow, <br />Cornell University <br />Friedl introduced Akbar Alikhan, who thanked the Board for the opportunity to speak and <br />Recreation Managers Lindsey and Wiley for their support. He provided a special <br />presentation, Thousand Oaks Recreational Options Project. He explained his methodology, <br />conclusions and recommendations. He indicated that there is a need for private sector <br />involvement in providing recreational options for older teens, such as a bowling alley, music <br />venues, ice skating and hockey. He said the District has been the major provider thus far. <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br />Paula Larson, Thousand Oaks, said she had not been notified about the construction of a <br />bike path in Conejo Creek South. <br />
