DEFINITIONS AND REFERENCES <br />1. dBA — Decibels recorded in a filter in which low and very high frequencies are given <br />less weight than on the standard decibel scale. It was used in this study for its <br />similarity to human sound recognition. <br />2. High dBA — The highest noise level the meter recorded. <br />3. Low dBA — The lowest noise level the meter recorded. <br />4. Ambient dBA — This recording includes all sounds present in the environment. It is <br />often viewed as the "background noise level." <br />5. Average Sound Recording — Average of low, ambient, and high recordings of <br />morning, noon, and evening <br />6. Morning — Recordings taken in the morning were taken between 7:00 a.m. and <br />9:00 a.m. <br />7. Noon — Recordings taken at noon were taken between and 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 <br />p.m. <br />8. Evening — Recordings taken in the evening were taken between 6:00 p.m. and <br />8:00 p.m. <br />9. Check Mate SPL Meter — This meter was used to record the sound levels. Its <br />serial number is 060707268. <br />10. Park -Car Traffic — Cars parked at the park were counted. For Kimber Park, all <br />cars were counted if they were on Wendy Drive along the park, on Bear Creek <br />Road along or across the street from the park, or in the parking lot. For Walnut <br />Grove Park, for both Windtree Avenue and Newbury Road, all cars along or across <br />the street from the park were counted. For Estella, only cars in the lot were <br />counted. <br />11. Temporary Off -Leash Areas — Small ('/ to 3/ acre) areas were temporarily fenced - <br />off with chain link at each park. Unlike the existing main dog park at Conejo Creek <br />West, due to its small area, there is no division between small and large dogs. The <br />Temporary Off -Leash Areas were provided with double gates, mutt mitt dispensers, <br />receptacles, and other basic necessities. <br />21 Page <br />
