CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 17, 2011 <br />7:30 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />MINUTES <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br />Jacobsen called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. and Hare led the flag salute. <br />2. ROLL CALL <br />Directors Present: Gibson, Holt, Jacobsen, Jones, Lange <br />Directors Absent: <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Lewanda, Hare and Lindsey, <br />Administrative Assistant Reynders, Executive Assistant Ohren <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATION <br />Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) —Amy Lethbridge and Rorie <br />Skei <br />Skei and Lethbrige thanked District staff and the Board of Directors for their support. <br />Skei presented an overview of MRCA. She stated that the MRCA is a local partnership <br />between the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy (SMMC), which is a state agency <br />established by the Legislature, and the Conejo Recreation and Park District and the Rancho <br />Simi Recreation and Park District, both of which are local park agencies established by the <br />vote of the people in those communities. MRCA is dedicated to the preservation and <br />management of local open space and parkland, watershed lands, trails, and wildlife habitat. <br />and manages and provides ranger services for almost 65,000 acres of public lands and <br />parks. She identified and highlighted unique projects such as King Gillette Ranch, Upper <br />Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve, various wild life corridors, Marsh Park, Tujunga <br />Wash, and Vista Hermosa Natural Park <br />Lethbridge provided an overview of MRCA education and interpretive programs such as <br />residential camps, day trips, environmental education, interpretation of watersheds, campfires <br />and stargazing events, and community partnerships. <br />Board members thanked Skei and Lethbridge for their comprehensive and informative <br />presentation and their service to the community. They requested copies of the information. <br />Neighborhood for Learning — Janet Fleming <br />Fleming stated that the agency was established in 2002 and thanked Gibson for his long time <br />support. She said approximately 300 kids a day are served in five locations through child <br />care, classes, car seat installation and the learning trail. <br />
