February 6, 2414 Page 4 Friedl distributed CSDA Board Trustee Handbooks to Board members. Tim Hagel has been named the new Police Chief for the City of Thousand Oaks. Friedl met with the City Manager and representatives from a group interested in acquiring the Hidden Valley Ranch property for $48 million. This property is outside city, CRPD and COSCA jurisdiction. The CARPD Legislative Committee is meeting tomorrow; Friedl will attend via conference call. The CTO City Council will meet on February 11th at CLU; the University will be hosting an open house an hour beforehand. District staff will be on hand at the community pool offering tours and information. District representatives have been invited to join a roundtable discussion of the Quimby Act and the Thousand Oaks Blvd. Specific Plan "mixed use" development objectives within the Plan Area. On February 1 Bth, senior District staff will attend an all -day retreat at CSUCI to prepare for a strategic plan update and to discuss District challenges and future opportunities. E. Directors' Reports Lange reported he was re-elected Chair of the MRCA and re-elected Vice Chair of the SMMC Advisory Committee. As MRCA Chair, he writes a letter for each issue of their newsletter, "Symbiosis." The winter edition will focus on drought and water conservation. Lange solicited information from Friedl re: District water -saving practices and has incorporated them into his letter. Holt attended a "Conejo Coalition for Youth" meeting this past week; current programs include "Reality Parties" to which parents are invited; students role-play to help educate parents on the realities of current teen partying trends, including concurrent alcohol and drug use. Additionally, a pilot Internship program is being introduced. Twenty-five teens will be placed in different businesses and agencies throughout the Conejo Valley for six weeks during the summer; the Coalition is looking for companies or agencies willing to participate. Gibson donated some archival materials from past District history to Friedl for safekeeping. Gibson is the Chair of the AWAVC Symposium being held on April 24th from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm in Oxnard. CRPD is sponsoring the event; Board members are encouraged to attend.
