Recreation Division Highlights Page 2 of 4 Revised 07.2024
Conejo Community Center
McCrea Ranch Summer Movie Series
Saturday June 22 was the first of 4 outdoor movies at McCrea Ranch. Over 100 people attended including patrons and docents. They all enjoyed the film Adventure in Manhattan starring Joel McCrea and Jean Arthur. Our next film will be on July 27 featuring The Tall Stranger starring Joel McCrea and Virginia Mayo, who was also from Thousand Oaks.
Therapeutic Recreation
Summer Camps
On June 17, the Therapeutic Recreation Unit started their first wave of summer camps with Youth, Tween, and Peer Mentor Camp. All camps enjoyed community outings to the pool, arts and crafts, social time, and sensory activities. Some campers even enjoyed the diving boards at TOHS pool! Youth campers enjoyed multiple variations of sensory activities.

Santa Barbara Train Trip
We took our first of two groups on the Santa Barbara Train trip in June. The group enjoyed a pizza lunch, a trolley ride to the zoo, a walk on the wild side in the Australian Walkabout, and a refreshing ice cream treat before getting back on the train to go home.
Autism Field Day
On June 7, the Therapeutic Unit hosted the Be Me Preschool from CVUSD for their annual end of year picnic in the park. Our amazing staff ran sensory activities, monitored the moon bounce, set up an obstacle course, and spent the morning engaging with over 1,000 kids, family members, teachers, and school administrators.
Safe Passage
On June 20 the Borchard Community Center, along with the Conejo Community Center and the Thousand Oaks Community Center took approximately 60 kids from our Safe Passage programs to Moorpark College. Participants received a physics lesson from one of the college’s professors, building wooden models in the college’s Maker Space, conducted experiments with a psychology professor and learned about physical fitness from a kinesiology instructor. This was followed up with a demonstration and tour of Moorpark
College’s teaching zoo.
