A RESOLUTION OF THE <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS • THE <br />CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />ADOPTING FINDINGS AND DETERMINING NEED FOR <br />MORE THAN FIVE (5) MEETINGS PER MONTH <br />Pursuant to California Public Resources Code section 5784.15, the Board of Directors of the <br />Conejo Recreation and Park District may annually adopt a written policy, based on a finding <br />supported by substantial evidence, as to why six (6) rather than five (5) meetings per month are <br />necessary for the effective operation of the district. <br />III pliq <br />llelllcl mim-W4 t4- • <br />1. The Conejo Recreation and Park District has more than 60 parks and facilities, hundreds <br />of recreation programs and classes, hosts dozens of special events, co -manages nearly <br />15,000 acres of open space including nearly 150 miles of multi -use trails and works closely <br />and cooperatively with dozens of non -profits and community groups to deliver a wide array <br />of park and recreation amenities and experiences to enrich the quality of life in the <br />community; and <br />2. The District offers services such as youth recreational and enrichment classes, senior <br />meals, volunteer programs, teen activities, at -risk youth services, a community arts and <br />cultural program, a therapeutic recreation program and inclusion services, adult sports <br />leagues, community aquatics, outdoor, hiking and environmental programming, and more <br />plus partners with non -profits which provide public access to museums, ranches, <br />equestrian facilities, community gardens, botanic gardens and more; and <br />3. While overseeing a large and diverse recreation and park district, a Board member has the <br />opportunity and invitation to attend many meetings, conferences, seminars, ceremonial <br />events, special events and activities to increase their awareness and understanding of the <br />District, its patrons, staff, facilities, operations, and its partner organizations; and <br />4. The definition of "meeting" should be broad and inclusive and allow maximum exposure to <br />and involvement with the activities of the District, the people residing within the District and <br />the government, non-profit organizations and community groups who help expand the <br />availability of recreation programs and community facilities available for the public; and <br />5. A member of the Board of Directors increases their understanding of and appreciation for <br />the many varied aspects of the District by having exposure to and involvement with a wide <br />array of meetings and activities related to the District which leads to more -informed <br />decision-making; and <br />
