A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS • THE CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT ADOPTING FINDINGS AND DETERMINING NEED FOR MORE THAN FIVE (5) MEETINGS PER MONTH Pursuant to California Public Resources Code section 5784.15, the Board of Directors of the Conejo Recreation and Park District may annually adopt a written policy, based on a finding supported by substantial evidence, as to why six (6) rather than five (5) meetings per month are necessary for the effective operation of the district. The Conejo Recreation and Park District has more than 60 parks and facilities, hundreds of recreation programs and classes, hosts dozens of special events, co -manages nearly 15,000 acres of open space including nearly 150 miles of multi -use trails and works closely and cooperatively with dozens of non -profits and community groups to deliver a wide array of park and recreation amenities and experiences to enrich the quality of life in the community; and 2. The District offers services such as youth recreational and enrichment classes, senior meals, volunteer programs, teen activities, at -risk youth services, a community arts and cultural program, a therapeutic recreation program and inclusion services, adult sports leagues, community aquatics, outdoor, hiking and environmental programming, and more plus partners with non -profits which provide public access to museums, ranches, equestrian facilities, community gardens, botanic gardens and more; and 3. While overseeing a large and diverse recreation and park district, a Board member has the opportunity and invitation to attend many meetings, conferences, seminars, ceremonial events, special events and activities to increase their awareness and understanding of the District, its patrons, staff, facilities, operations, and its partner organizations; and 4. The definition of "meeting" should be broad and inclusive and allow maximum exposure to and involvement with the activities of the District, the people residing within the District and the government, non-profit organizations and community groups who help expand the availability of recreation programs and community facilities available for the public; and 5. A member of the Board of Directors increases their understanding of and appreciation for the many varied aspects of the District by having exposure to and involvement with a wide array of meetings and activities related to the District which leads to more -informed decision-making; and
