CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />June 1, 2023 <br />6:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />M I N U T E S <br />Huffer called the meeting to order at 6:02pm and Kilgore, Kang, Smith and Greenbaum led the <br />flag salute. <br />Directors Present: Buss, Cusworth, Huffer, Lange and Nickles <br />Directors Absent: <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis, Mooney and Smith, and <br />Executive Assistant Reynders <br />Trails Education Days Letter Writing Contest Winners — Elayne Haggan <br />Tyler Kilgore — Banyan Elementary School <br />Emma Kang —Lang Ranch Elementary School <br />Emily Smith — Weathersfield Elementary School (absent) <br />Samara Smith — Westlake Hills Elementary School <br />Adelaide Greenbaum — Wildwood Elementary School <br />Haggan, Trails Education Days Coordinator and Conejo Open Space Foundation Director, <br />expressed appreciation for the District's continued support of the Trails Education Days <br />program, and especially for the assistance of CRPD staff. The contest changed somewhat <br />this year — Shery Leiken and Jennifer Fry (retired 4th and 5th grade teachers) took charge. <br />They recruited nine retired 4thand 5thgradeteachers to assist with the judging. They made <br />some program modifications, which added value to entire program and enhanced the <br />experience for the students. There were over 660 entries this year. Four of the five winners, <br />and three of the winner's teachers, were able to attend the meeting this evening; they were <br />introduced individually and congratulated by the Board members for this special <br />achievement. <br />Christine Menges, a new reporter for the "Thousand Oaks Acorn", introduced herself to the <br />Board of Directors and expressed excitement over reporting on the District. <br />
