Recreation Division Highlights Page 4 of 5 Revised 12.2022
Safe Passage
Other Event Information
On December 17, the Conejo Community Center hosted a gift giveaway for the Safe Passage participants of the Warwick community. We served approximately 100 Warwick students, and each child had the opportunity to choose 2-3 presents each. Families also experienced fun music and activities in the Main Hall of the CCC including, arts
and crafts activities such as making
reindeer food and writing letters to
Santa, and hiking through the Jingle Bell Hike trail. Participants were also served delicious tacos along with
fresh hot chocolate.
The Jingle Bell Hike was a huge success. The families really enjoyed the trail. Live music and various holiday games were also available for participants to enjoy!
On Thursday, December 22, Tim Hagel, Park Rangers, and volunteers that are associated with Safe Passage worked on the Butterfly Garden at the Conejo Community Park. The garden is visited by the Pre-Kindergarten and Preschool programs throughout the school year. During the spring, we should expect to see beautiful milk weeds, sun flowers and other various plants.

Thousand Oaks Teen Center
Youth Outreach/Teen Center Middle School Winter Break Camp
The Youth Outreach Team recently conducted a Middle School Camp at the Teen Center over the first week of winter break. About 20 campers enjoyed themselves while engaging in several sports, games, STEAM activities provided by Art Trek, social and emotional exercises, and took nature walks in the beautiful Conejo Creek North Park. The camp culminated with a trip to Simi Valley’s own Harley’s Bowl on Friday December 23. A special “shout out” goes to Liz and Shelby; two AmeriCorps volunteers that helped all week. The program was sponsored by Safe Passage and Adelante and was truly a “thumbs-up” experience for everyone involved.
