CONEJO RECREATION AND PARK DISTRICT <br />BOARD OF DIRECTORS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />October 6, 2022 <br />6:00 PM <br />HILLCREST CENTER <br />M I N U T E S <br /> <br />1. CALL TO ORDER AND FLAG SALUTE <br /> <br />Cusworth called the meeting to order at 6:00pm and Mooney led the flag salute. <br /> <br />2. ROLL CALL <br /> <br />Directors Present: Cusworth, Holt, Huffer, Lange and Nickles <br /> <br />Directors Absent: <br /> <br />Staff Present: General Manager Friedl, Administrators Callis and Smith, Senior Park <br />Planner Mooney and Executive Assistant Reynders <br /> <br />3. SPECIAL PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />Conejo Valley Botanic Garden (CVBG) <br /> <br />Beverly Brune, President of CVBG, mentioned that the Garden’s 50-year lease with the <br />District will be up next year; she expressed gratitude to CRPD for its support over the years. <br />The Garden is mainly run by volunteers; there is one paid part-time gardener. Brune <br />shared some recent garden improvements, including brick pavers at the entrance, and a <br />trench for a new water pipe. Safety handrails will be installed soon. Many features of the <br />garden are personally dedicated including The Kids Adventure Garden, dedicated to <br />Maryanne Lucas and memorialized with a bronze plaque. Garden Volunteers are <br />acknowledged annually, including an award for “Volunteer of the Year. There will be an <br />Open House on October 23rd from 11am to 3pm; all are welcome. Brune answered Board <br />member’s questions and was thanked for her informative presentation. <br /> <br />4. ITEMS FROM THE PUBLIC <br /> <br />Carol Nierman expressed concerns with the “Busy Bees” group at the Goebel Adult <br />Community Center and requested involvement by Administration to address the issues. <br /> <br />Elayne Haggan, representing Conejo Open Space Foundation (COSF), reported on the <br />success of last Saturday’s Native Plantapalooza and Ecofest, which was held at Conejo <br />Creek North Park. The plan is to make this an annual event due to its popularity. Haggan <br />expressed gratitude for the support of CRPD. <br />
