Conejo Recreation & Park District
GENERAL MANAGER
Jim Friedl
DATE: July 15, 2021
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Doug Nickles, Chair
Nellie Cusworth, Vice Chair
George M. Lange, Director
Susan L. The first year the
Haunted house drew 40 people. By the eighth year, attendance had grown to 4,400 people over four nights. A larger
venue was needed.
CRPD stepped in to help and in 2008 the Reign of Terror Haunted House relocated to Hillcrest Center.
In 2009, Reign of Terror moved to a vacant store at the Thousand Oaks Marketplace. That was the first year that
CRPD was provided with a donation. To date, CRPD has received a total of $335,000 in donations from Reign of
Terror that supports Conejo Theatre for Everyone and the Thousand Oaks Teen Center. The contributions offset
program costs and help with equipment purchases. Reign of Terror also supports other local organizations and
individuals.
In 2020, Thousand Oaks Marketplace changed the location of Reign of Terror from above Gold's Gym down to the
lower level. Prior to 2020, there was no rent required as part of the lease agreement. The 2020 lease required a
rent amount of $70,000. Upon completion of the relocation to the lower level, COVID-19 guidelines prohibited being
able to operate, resulting in the Thousand Oaks Marketplace waiving the lease rent in its entirety.
This year the Thousand Oaks Marketplace has increased the rent to $75,000 and the lease period runs from July
through December.
Respectfully submitted, Prepared by,
Rochelle Callis, Administrator Melissa Ruwhiu, Recreation Services Manager
Recreation and Community Services Recreation and Community Services
Enclosures
Current Proposed Temporary Lease Agreement
2020 Existing Temporary Lease Agreement
ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES
403 West Hillcrest Drive, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360-4223
805-495-6471 1 Fax: 805-497-3199 1 parks@crpd.org I www.crpd.org
