September 21, 2001 <br />Page 3 <br />Margaritis (Peg) Rungaitis spoke in opposition to the use of the site by the <br />Thousand Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, cited safety concerns, and <br />thanked the District for its efforts. <br />Marilee Ullmann, long-time Thousand Oaks resident, reviewed past relevant history <br />of the site and master planning effort, spoke in opposition to the use of the site by <br />the Thousand Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, cited safety concerns, <br />and noted that Waverly Park is the only equestrian site in the community. <br />Barbara Kloster thanked the Board for the opportunity to speak. She said she is a <br />past member of the Waverly Park focus group, the use of the site by runners and <br />joggers was never discussed during the planning process, it is the School District's <br />responsibility to find a new site for the cross country runners, and she cited safety <br />and compatibility issues as the main concerns. She said that the runners should not <br />be allowed to use the site, and the prohibition should include the October 4 meeting, <br />and she urged that the issue be agendized. <br />Jeannette Welling, long time resident, spoke in opposition to the use of Waverly <br />Park by the Thousand oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, and cited <br />safety concerns. She said that horses and runners are not compatible, and she <br />described a dangerous incident on Erbes Road involving cross country runners and <br />a frightened horse. She said safety is the main concern, and alternative sites are <br />available for runners. <br />Gibson noted that written statements and cards were received and would be read by <br />the Board. He said that staff is investigating the issue, no action will be taken <br />tonight, no public hearing on the issue has been scheduled, and he thanked all for <br />their attendance and participation in the meeting. <br />In response to Berger's inquiries, Sorensen said that Waverly Park is an alcohol free <br />park, and Benton said that the cross country meet is scheduled for October 4 at 3 <br />p.m. <br />Berger urged continued communication and cooperation with the police. Jacobsen <br />requested that the Board be kept informed of ongoing problems such as drinking in <br />the parks. <br />5. APPROVAL OF AGENDA <br />It was moved by Holt, seconded by Berger, and carried 5-0, to approve the <br />agenda as presented. <br />
