September 21, 2001 <br />Page 2 <br />Brad Merville, a new resident of the community, stated his appreciation of the <br />community and equestrian facility. He spoke in opposition to the use of Waverly <br />Park by the Thousand Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, cited safety <br />concerns, and urged another location be found for the track team. <br />Diana Merville, a new resident of Thousand Oaks and horse owner, said she <br />facilitates junior equestrians, and she described a recent potentially dangerous <br />situation involving runners and junior equestrians at the Waverly site. She stated <br />her opposition to granting a permit to the Thousand Oaks High School Cross <br />Country Track Team to use Waverly Park for practices and meets, and requested <br />that the runners be relocated. <br />Nancy Thompson described the continuing problem of drinking, drug usage, and <br />inappropriate behavior at Waverly Park, and she urged increased patrol of the site. <br />Relative to the use of the site by the Thousand Oaks High School Cross Country <br />Track Team, she described a dangerous incident she observed, and cited safety <br />concerns. <br />Sander Shulman spoke in opposition to the use of Waverly Park by the Thousand <br />Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, and cited safety concerns. <br />Don Thompson spoke in opposition to the use of Waverly Park by the Thousand <br />Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, and cited safety concerns. <br />Ashlee Cabral, an a grader and equestrian, spoke in opposition to the use of <br />Waverly Park by the Thousand Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, and <br />described a potentially dangerous situation involving equestrians and the cross <br />country team that she observed at the site. <br />Randy Cabral spoke in opposition to the use of Waverly Park by the Thousand <br />Oaks High School Cross Country Track Team, cited safety concerns, and said <br />runner and equestrian use of trails is incompatible, Waverly is the only equestrian <br />site available, and the site is maintained by the equestrians. <br />Maureen McNamara said that Waverly Park is the only equestrian site in the area; <br />during the planning process, the use of the site by the Thousand Oaks High School <br />Cross Country Track Team was not discussed; and the issue is safety. <br />Bob Olson spoke of safety concerns when the site is used by the Thousand Oaks <br />High School Cross Country Track Team, and he thanked the District for its park <br />facilities. <br />
